Crate preparation: the work that happens before the set

How to prepare a crate that actually mixes — analysis first, tempo bands second, rights checked before anything reaches a stage.

Analyse before you sort

Sorting by a tag someone typed years ago is how sets fall apart. Run the analysis first so BPM, key and structure come from the audio itself, then sort on the measured values.

In AFROFLOW, uploaded and catalogue tracks go through the same analyser. A track that fails to decode is reported as failed rather than quietly given default values.

Build tempo bands, not one big folder

Group the crate into narrow bands — say 112–116, 116–120, 120–124 — and inside each band separate percussive openers from melodic, vocal-forward records. Most of your in-the-moment decisions become a choice between three or four tracks instead of three hundred.

Keep a handful of reset tracks: lower energy, clean intro, safe key. They are what you reach for when a blend does not land.

Rights are part of preparation

Playback, practice, performance, recording, streaming, download and sale are separate permissions. A track you may practise with is not automatically a track you may stream.

AFROFLOW checks eligibility for the intended use before a track can enter an AI suggestion or a set, and blocks anything that does not clear. That check is not something the AI can talk its way around.
